Cute Braids for Sunshine

In every magazine this Season, from Cosmo to Seventeen, braids are rocking the pages! Because there are so many styles, versions and ways to create them I wanted to post some of my favorites!

1. The Fishtail Braid This braid has been around forever, but just recently became a huge hit on runways and photo shoots across the world. The reason why I love it? It looks detailed, artistic and creative! You can keep it simple and straight down the back of your head, or make it into a cute side braid. Runway shows are favoring the messy look by making each braid layer a little crooked.

2. French Braided Bangs If you are going to try a new hair style this summer, this is the one! French braiding your bangs creates a sleek, yet feminine look. This can be incorporated into any hair length; from short to long. It’s also a perfect solution to growing out your bangs!

3. Side Braids This is a very classic look and can go well with any outfit; night or day. I use this style multiple times during the day. It’s quick to do in between classes, or at work to keep my long locks out of my face. (Always keep a few hair ties in your purse!) For a messy, softer look- grab the end of the braid after you tie it and shake gently. This will open up the braid slightly and make it appear thicker and longer.

Pastel Colors are now in Trend!

Image

Everywhere you look this season you are sure to find pastel shades! This new color trend can be edgy, feminine or even proffesional when the right colors and shapes are paired together. Here are some reasons why pastel colors ROCK:

1. They make your skin look tanner in the summer! Pastels are a paler- version of our favorite colors. In the summer when you start to get an outside- all- day tan, the pastel colors make your skin glow! They also compliment fair skin shades during any season!

2. Geometric shapes look professional, not childish! Many designers are pairing pastel shades with geometric patterns in their clothing lines. The results? Proffesional, yet feminine pieces that are gorgeous! With any other colors, you would get a more kid- friendly color scheme, but because pastel shades are more subtle the effect is much more grown- up.

3. They make perfect jeans for summer! Probably the most popular use of pastel this season is in jeans. From soft yellow to faded coral, these jeans make a statement without being too flashy. They add a girly- vibe to any wardrobe, while also feeling very relaxed. Most stores like JC Pennys, Macys and Wet Seal have their own versions of them, making them super affordable!

4. They make your nails appear longer! Unlike darker colors like navy, black and purple, pastel nail – polishes create a longer, slimmer effect on nails. To compliment the shades, shape your nails into an oval shape using a nail file. Not only will your nails look cute and feminine, they will be perfect for day or night events!

The cute new Nail Trend!

Image

After seeing all the hype on Sephora.com, as well as other makeup and blog sites, I’ve decided to research this cute nail trend called “Caviar Nails”.

What makes Ciate Caviar nails special? They use a mixture of popular nail colors (Pastel, white, gold) and add a layer of microbeads in complementing colors on top! This gives the nail body, texture and a unique look!

Each kit runs about $25 (That includes 1 nail polish, 1 Jar of microbeads, a tray and a funnel to help collect spilled beads to add back to the jar). If this price seems a little steep, you can always do a DIY version as well! Michelle Phan added a great tutorial to her site to show you how to do it at home.

For the DIY version, just use nail polish you have at home, and buy the Microbeads from Michaels (Craft store). You can get big kits with 10 jars of the microbeads in various colors for only $15!

My Favorite Makeup Looks for Spring 2012

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share with you some of my favorite makeup trends for this spring! As everyone from Washington knows, spring here is crazy weather! Sunshine one moment, hail the next, and then pouring rain! But don’t let the weather get you down, celebrate with some new looks!

Nude Lips colors for the spring season

1. Nude or Peach colored lips. This lip color is designed to go with ANY look. From femine and sweet, to a hot night out! My favorite colors with it are black and brown eyeshadows, and peachy- pink cheeks.

Blended Dark eyeshadows

2. Blended Dark Eyeshadows.  This look is so dramatic and intense, I love it! Inspired by runway models for Daryl K (Makeup by NARS). Be bold this season and make your eyes pop by applying color both on top and underneath. Make sure to blend, blend, blend!

Bronzer Effect

3. Bronzer Under Cheekbones. An easy- to- do trick that creates the illusion of sculpted cheekbones, as well as making the face appear softer and glowing! Taking a contouring brush, sweep bronzer under your cheekbones lightly. For an even bigger effect, dip your fingers in shimmering powder and pat on the top of your cheekbones!

Defined Eyebrows

4. Defined and Dark eyebrows. Not only does this look make your facial features stand out, it also makes your makeup go together better! Lips and eyes tend to stand out more when eyebrows are darker. You can either go for an intense look, or a dreamy look depending on the shape and shade. Take asmall angled brush and dip into cream or powder (Brown- dark brown). Then, start to blend throughout the eyebrows. For a less intense look, use a mascara wand tool and brush through eyebrows lightly.

My Blog’s First Birthday!

I am SO excited to start my very first blog! I have been wanting to make one forever, but always brushed it off as a later project for a rainy day.

So I would like to introduce myself and what this blog is all about – BEAUTY! ❤

Hi, My name’s Lynn 🙂 I love all things creative; drawing, painting, crafting, DIY projects, fashion, but my biggest love… Makeup! I went to Evergreen Beauty College for the Esthetics program and I work at an Asian spa as a receptionist. I want to make a name for myself in the beauty industry and spread my knowledge about makeup and skincare to everyone!

Here’s a couple facts about me:

1. I’ve run a Henna Tattooing business for 6 years. When I was in middle school I loved to draw, so I thought Henna Tattoos would be fun to try at home too. I ended up doing them at Farmer’s Markets during the summer to make some money and it turned into an all year business! With work and school now, I only do parties and events occasionally.

2. I love the Ocean! I want to live in a beach house someday. Salty air, the crash of the waves, shells and sand-  I’m in my element on the beach 🙂

3. I live in Washington. No, that does not mean vampires, were wolves and sappy romances, but it does mean coffee, year- round rain and lots of forests!
